Garway School Eisteddfod 2010

School council and the Tree of Hope

Following the recent tragic events in Haiti, Garway School Council have launched an initiative to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake.  For each donation, a ribbon will be tied to a "Tree of Hope" in the school grounds - a visual reminder of the suffering of the Haitian people.  A donation pot will be available in Reception.

Update on Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic Panels

Some great news about our sustainable energy sources at school.  We are pleased to announce that to date (8th February) both wind turbine and photovoltaic panels have saved 1,855 kilograms of CO2 (imagine 1,855 balloons 1 meter in diameter!)

Regarding financial savings, both systems have generated 4,313.9 kWh of energy which equates to a financial saving of £440 over a 6 month period.

Apparently, our turbine is one of the most efficient turbines to be erected by Greenearth Energy!

We are hoping to install a link to our school database so that you will be able to access this information at home.

Christmas production of Hagbane's Doom

This year the children of Garway primary school have put on the production, Hagbane's Doom by Nick Perrin.

Three children, Sophie, Josh and Andrew, find something very mysterious about an archway in a local park: it seems to have their names inscribed on it.  Going through the archway, they find themselves transported into another world, caught up in a battle to save the Forest of Alamore from the wicked crone, Hagbane.  Hagbane has stolen the Merestone - a magical stone that is essential to keep the forest alive.  Prince Oswain (rightful ruler of the forest), the children and the forest animals defeat Hagbane and her army of Grims and Grogs.  In the dramatic climax of the show, Oswain is triumphant and the Merestone is restored to it's rightful place.

Let's Get Cooking at Garway Primary School

Let's Get Coomking is a national network of cooking clubs across England for children and their families.  The initiataive was launched in Herefordshire on 14th October and we are pleased to announce that we have successfully been awarded full funding for setting up a cooking club at Garway school.

This means that we will receive £2,500 over three years toward cooking equipment and club running costs together with free training for 2 adults and a small group of children in March 2010.  As one of only six primary schools to achieve full-funding status - we are very excited about this opportunity and are looking forward to our launch next spring.
